1° INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION "LAZAR BERMAN" - CAMERINO (MC) - FROM 3rd TO 5th JUNE 2016

The 1° International Piano Competition “Lazar Berman” is organized by PianoAcademy of Marsida Koni in collaboration with Accademia Italiana del Clarinetto, and with the sponsorship of Camerino Municipal Administration, in order to value young musicians and underweight their talent, art and inspiration, stimulating international cultural exchanges and promoting the territory.

The 1° International Piano Competition “Lazar Berman”, artistic director Marsida Koni, is taking place in Camerino (MC) (Italy) from 3rd to 5th June 2016, inside the Palazzo della Musica.
The Competition is open to pianists from all over the world.

Regulations

The 1st International Piano Competition “Lazar Berman” is organized by PianoAcademy of Marsida Koni in collaboration with Accademia Italiana del Clarinetto, and with the sponsorship of Camerino Municipal Administration, in order to value young musicians and underweight their talent, art and inspiration, stimulating international cultural exchanges and promoting the territory.

Art.1 - Period
The 1st International Piano Competition “Lazar Berman” is taking place in Camerino (MC, Italy) from 3rd to 5th June 2016, inside the Palazzo della Musica. The Competition is open to pianists from all over the world.

Art. 2 – Contest
The 1st International Piano Competition “Lazar Berman” is composed by two stages. During the first stage, every competitor will compete for his own Category.
In the second stage, Absolute Winners of each Category will compete for the “Grand Prix Lazar Berman”. Committee will judge performances during the Final Concert and it will declare the 1st International Piano Competition “Lazar Berman” Absolute Winner, who will receive the “Grand Prix Lazar Berman”.
During the Final Concert, every Absolute First Prize is free to choose to perform the 50% of the program performed during his Category competition. 

Art. 3 - Categories
Category “Little Hands”
for those born from 2008 on. Free-choice program, maximum duration 5 min.

Category A
for those born in 2006 - 2007. Free-choice program, maximum duration 7 min. including at least two pieces of different style and period; one of these pieces could be a piece written by a composer of the same nationality of the  competitor. 

Category B
for those born in 2004 - 2005. Free-choice program, maximum duration 10 min. including at least two pieces of different style and period; one of these pieces could be a piece written by a composer of the same nationality of the  competitor. 

Category C
for those born in 2002 - 2003. Free-choice program, maximum duration 12 min. including at least two pieces of different style and period, one of these by J. S. Bach.

Category D
for those born in 2000 - 2001. Free-choice program, maximum duration 15 min. including at least two pieces of different style and period; one of these must be a brilliant Etude.

Category E
for those born in 1997 - 98 - 99. Free-choice program, maximum duration 20 min. including at least two pieces of different style and period; one of these must be the first movement of a Classical Sonata.

Category F
for those born in 1993 - 94 - 95 - 96. Free-choice program, maximum duration 25 min. including at least one brilliant Etude and the first movement of a Classical Sonata.

Category G
for those born in 1986 - 87 - 88 - 89 - 90 - 91 - 92. Free-choice program, maximum duration 30 min. including at least one brilliant Etude, one Baroque piece and the first movement of a Classical Sonata.

Art.4 - Common Rules
Competitors can register for a Category higher than their age, but they can not register for more than one Category. The maximum duration for each Category does not force competitors to reach it, but Committee can interrupt the performance if it passes duration limits. In any case Committee can stop or can ask a repetition of the performance if it will be necessary.

Art.5 - Auditions
Competitors will be admitted to competition in alphabetical order. Competition schedule of every Category will be communicated in advance. All competitions will be public. Auditions and the final Concert are taking place in the Palazzo della Musica, Via Costanza Varano snc, Camerino (MC) Italy,  where there is also the Competition Administrative Office where you can register your arriving in Camerino and ask information. 
Competitors will have to find out about audition day, time and place checking the website  www.marsidakoni.com or www.accademiaitalianaclarinetto.com or asking to Competition Administrative Office. If they will arrive on delay, they can play only if the Committee will be agree to listen them, before the end of their own Category competition. Before Audition, Competitors will have to give to the Committee an identity card and a copy of the pieces they are going to perform.

Art. 6 - Schedule
Auditions are taking place following this provisional schedule:
Category F - G:  3rd June 2016
Category C-D-E:  4th June 2016
Category Little Hands, A - B:  5th June 2016
N.B. - This schedule can be changed in relation to applications number.

Art.7 - Committee
Committee will be composed by:
- M°Riccardo RISALITI (Italy), President, teacher at Imola Piano Academy and Milan “G.Verdi” Conservatory.
- Valentina Berman (Russia), international Artist, wife of M°Lazar Berman to whom the competition is dedicated.
- M°Oxana Yablonskaya (Russia), international Artist and teacher at New York Julliard School.
- M°Luigi Tanganelli (Italy), international Artist and teacher at Cesena “B.Maderna” Conservatory.
- M°Gianluca Luisi (Italy), international Artist.

The Artistic Director or his representative will coordinate Committee’s works. For all the incompatibility rules we refer to Ministerial Law n.2 (August 11th 1989) art.16. Committee will make a secret centesimal voting; the average will be calculated excluding the highest and the lowest scores.

Art.8 - Scores, Final concert and Awards Ceremony, Recordings
The absolute winner for each Category is the Competitor who receives the highest score, not lower than 98/100. First place winners are the Competitors who receive a score not lower than 95/100; second place winners are those with a score not lower than 90/100; third place those with a score not lower than 85/100; merit with a score not lower than 80/100; qualified with a score not lower than a 60/100.
Winners will have to free perform in the final Concert, according to the program arranged by the organization, otherwise the award will be cancelled. Audio and video recordings  of the Competition and final Concert cannot be subject of economic claim. The copyright of these  recordings are exclusively of PianoAcademy for any use. It can not be possible to take video, photos and recordings during the Competition, except by expressed permission of the organization. The Absolute First Prize is indivisible. Withholding taxes will be made on all the Prizes.

Art.9 - Prizes and Scholarships
- Absolute First Prize Categories Little Hands - A - B:  

Scholarship of 100 euros, Cup and Certificate.
- Absolute First Prize Categories  C - D: 

Scholarship of 200 euros, Medal and Certificate.
- Absolute First Prize Category E: 

Scholarship of 300 euros, Medal and Certificate.
- Absolute First Prize Category F: 

Scholarship of 400 euros, Medal and Certificate.
- Absolute First Prize Category G: 

Scholarship of 500 euros, Medal and Certificate.
-  “Grand Prix Lazar Berman”

Certificate, Plaque and the invitation to have the following concert:
Recital at 30° Camerino Music Festival 2016;
Recital for Italian Mozart Association;
Other concerts are being defined.

N.B.: Concerts dates, programs and conditions must be planned with every organization.

- To First, Second and Third Place Winners of each category: 

Medal and Certificate with score.
- To the other placed competitors in each category: 

Certificate with score.
- To each teacher with 1st prize students:

Certificate

Art.10 - Special Prizes
- Special Prize “Carl Filtsch” Scholarship of 100 euros and Certificate.
To compete to this prize competitor must play one or more of the following pieces by Carl Filtsch:
from Premières pensées musicales op.3 (1843)
- Romance sans paroles in E minor
- Barcarole in G♭ major
- Mazurka in E♭ minor
These pieces for “Carl Filtsch” Special Prize can be performed in addition to the maximum duration of competitor’s Category.
Competitors can ask music scores at Competition Administrative Office.

- To the best placed competitor from East Europe:
“Piano East” Prize, scholarship of 100 euros and Certificate.

- To the best placed competitor from Asia:
“Piano Asia” Prize, scholarship of 100 euros and Certificate.

- To the best performance of a piece by a composer from the same country of the competitor:
‘National School’ Prize, scholarship of 100 euros and Certificate.

- To the best performance of a piece by J. S. Bach:
‘Bach’ Prize,  scholarship  of 100 euros and Certificate.

- To the best performance of a virtuoso piece or etude:
’Virtuoso’ Prize, scholarship of 100 Euros and Certificate.

- To the best performance of a classical sonata:
‘Classical Sonata’ Prize, scholarship of 100 Euros and Certificate.

- To the best performance of a Romantic piece:
‘Romantic Music’ Prize, scholarship of 100 Euros and Certificate.

- To the best performance of a piece written from 1960 until today:
‘Contemporary Music’ Prize, scholarship of 100 Euros and Certificate.

- To the Absolute First Prize most voted by final Concert’s audience:
Special Audience Prize

- Certificate

- To the teacher with the highest number of awarded students:
“Carlo Zecchi" Prize, Medal and Certificate.

Cat. Little Hands - A: 40 Euros
Cat. B - C: 50 Euros
Cat  D- E: 60 Euros
Cat. F - G: 70 Euros

Art.13 - Final Rules
Application implies full and unconditional acceptance of all the competition rules. For any disputes, Macerata Court is competent and the Italian text is valid.  All bank and/or postal costs must be borne by the competitor. Application fee is not refundable.
